Blue Slate Road Base & Gravel starts with natural slate from our quarry near Newport, Washington. Instead of crushing the rock into aggregate, we screen the naturally occurring slate chips into different sizes.
Why Does That Matter?
Slate naturally breaks into flat chips.
Those flat chips tend to lay down flatter and move less under traffic than crushed aggregate or rounded gravel.
Less movement can mean fewer potholes, less washboarding, and less gravel being pushed out of place.
Every gravel road eventually needs some maintenance, but the material you start with can make a difference.

The raw slate chips come directly from our quarry and are fed into our portable screening plant with an excavator, where it is processed and separated into different sizes for road-base and gravel applications.
