jesse Schacher
In early 2002, Jesse and Barb Schacher formed Cougar Ridge Stone, LLC and began producing quality columnar basalt products and slate products. The Schacher’s later sold their columnar basalt quarry in order to focus on and specialize in producing Eagle Mtn. Slate products and BlueSlate WoodStone landscape rock on their property in Northeastern Washington state. It was then that Cougar Ridge Stone, LLC became Blue Slate, Inc.
Over the years, Jesse has also installed gorgeous, low-maintenance landscape and hardscape projects on several properties the Schacher’s have owned and also for friends and family members. Photos of his creative work can be viewed throughout this website and on the Photo Gallery pages.
Blue Slate, Inc. owner, Jesse Schacher, has been in the landscape rock, decorative rock and aggregate business for over thirty-five years. Prior to starting our own business, Jesse worked for Pacific Rock Products in Vancouver, Wa. for eleven years as a supervisor. During that time, he managed Pacific Rock’s Fisher Quarry for seven years and operated his own landscape rock company, Rock Solid, as well. The knowledge and experience he’s brought to Blue Slate, Inc. is invaluable.
In his spare time, Jesse enjoys hunting, fishing, welding and fabrication projects and having a good time with family and friends, especially out around the campfire!
Barby Schacher
Blue Slate, Inc. owner, Barby Schacher, has been in the landscape rock business for over twenty years. Prior to that, Barb developed real estate projects and worked as Post Master Relief at Elk City, located in the heart of North Central Idaho’s gorgeous “back country”.

Barby’s role at Blue Slate, Inc. includes office work, bookkeeping, customer service, sales and marketing.
Barb is also an artist who specializes in Wildlife and Western Art pencil drawings and pastel paintings. In addition to her original artwork, she has fine art prints available and also does commission artwork, when time allows.
In her spare time, Barb enjoys working on her art and a variety of arts & crafts projects, design, photographing wildlife, gardening and landscaping projects. Like her husband, she especially enjoys spending time with family and friends, having a good time out around the campfire!
